What is ProjectE?
ProjectE is a remake of the classic Equivalent Exchange 2 for modern Minecraft, developed by SinKillerJ for Forge (through 1.20.1) and NeoForge (1.21.1). Every item carries an EMC value (Energy-Matter Covalence), and the mod's tools convert freely between items of equal EMC. Learn an item once and you can transmute it from anything else you own.
The result is an economy-breaking late-game system: bulk cobblestone becomes diamonds, mob-farm drops become building blocks, and any renewable source of EMC becomes a source of everything. Packs often gate or rebalance ProjectE for exactly that reason.
Getting Started: Philosopher's Stone and Transmutation
- Craft the Philosopher's Stone. It is the catalyst for most ProjectE recipes and also transmutes blocks in-world with a right click (stone to grass, sand to glass, and similar pairs).
- Build a Transmutation Table. Place items into it to learn them permanently and burn items into stored EMC. Learned items can then be withdrawn in any quantity your EMC balance covers.
- Carry a Transmutation Tablet. The portable version keeps the full table interface in your inventory.
- Feed your EMC balance. Anything farmable works, whether that is crops, mob drops, or a tree farm. Mid-game players add Energy Collectors (passive EMC from light) and Anti-Matter Relays (boost collectors and consume items).
- Store EMC in Klein Stars for charging equipment and moving EMC between systems.
Tip: The Energy Condenser duplicates any learned item placed in its target slot, drawing on EMC from items you pipe into it. It is the standard bridge between ProjectE and regular automation mods.
Dark Matter, Red Matter, and Gem Gear
EMC funds a dedicated equipment ladder:
- Dark Matter tools, sword, and armor: high durability and mining speed, crafted from diamonds and EMC-dense materials.
- Red Matter tier: stronger again, with tools that carry charge-based area effects.
- Gem armor: the endgame set, with flight, damage immunity thresholds, and offensive abilities.
- Utility items: the Repair Talisman fixes gear in your inventory, Alchemical Bags give portable storage, the Watch of Flowing Time accelerates nearby machines and crops, and the Mercurial Eye places blocks straight from EMC.
Covalence Dust (low, medium, high) repairs items and drives early recipes; it is cheap to make from common materials in a crafting grid.
ProjectE FAQ
What Minecraft versions does ProjectE support?
ProjectE covers Forge versions from 1.7.10 through 1.20.1. The 1.21.1 release runs on NeoForge only, so use NeoForge for current-version packs.
How do EMC values work?
Every item has an EMC number derived from its crafting ingredients or a built-in base value. Burning an item in the Transmutation Table credits your balance; withdrawing a learned item debits it. Mods and packs can override values via data.
What is the fastest early EMC farm?
Automated farms of high-EMC crops or mob drops piped into an Energy Condenser are the usual start. Energy Collectors add passive income and scale up through their tiers and Anti-Matter Relay boosts.
