What is The One Probe?
The One Probe (TOP) by McJty shows a compact info overlay for whatever block or entity you aim at: name, mod, energy, fluids, progress bars, and redstone state. Its signature idea is immersion — in its optional mode, the overlay only appears while you hold the probe item (or wear Probe Goggles), turning block inspection into equipment rather than a free HUD.
TOP ships in McJty's ecosystem and many Forge/NeoForge packs, and mods integrate with it as widely as with Jade.
Modes and Features
- Always-on or probe-required: pack config decides whether info shows freely, needs the probe somewhere in your inventory, or needs it in hand. The config screen is reachable from the mods list.
- Sneak for extended info: crouching reveals detailed views such as exact energy numbers, full tank contents, and machine internals.
- Progress and state: furnaces, machines, growing crops, redstone strength, note block pitch, and mob health all render inline.
- Customization: overlay position, styles, and per-module toggles are configurable; McJty mods add rich TOP panels of their own.
- Probe Note support in some packs shows quest-relevant hints.
Choose TOP over Jade when the pack wants slower-paced, gear-based inspection, or when it leans on McJty's RFTools/XNet stack where TOP integration is deepest.
The One Probe FAQ
Why does The One Probe show nothing for me?
The pack likely enabled probe-required mode. Craft The One Probe item and keep it in your inventory or hand, or wear Probe Goggles, and the overlay appears.
Can I run Jade and The One Probe together?
Technically yes, but you get duplicate overlays. Packs pick one; disable the other in its config if both are present.
What versions does The One Probe support?
Forge builds from 1.9 through 1.20.1 and NeoForge builds for 1.20.4+ including 1.21.1.
