What is Botania?
Botania by Vazkii is a magic mod that behaves like a tech mod wearing flowers. Mana serves as its power grid and magical flora as its machines, and the whole system runs GUI-free through in-world interactions. It ships for Forge and Fabric across a long version history, with the Lexica Botania guiding every step in-game.
The design is famously elegant. Mana beams visibly arc between spreaders and pools while flowers eat fuel to produce power, and automation puzzles get solved with droppers, hoppers, and timing rather than screens.
Getting Started: Petals and Mana
- Gather Mystical Flowers (16 colors, worldgen) and craft the Petal Apothecary; toss petals and seeds into its water to craft your first living flora.
- Make a Mana Spreader and Mana Pool from livingwood — the transport and storage of the mana network.
- Plant generating flora. The Endoflame (burns furnace fuel dropped nearby) is the starter workhorse; Hydroangeas sip water but decay. Later tiers trade complexity for output — the Gourmaryllis eats food, the Entropinnyum absorbs TNT blasts, and the Kekimurus gloriously consumes cake.
- Craft the Runic Altar for runes, gating the next tier of recipes.
- Add functional flora: Hopperhock (item pickup), Rannuncarpus (item placement), and the Orechid (converts stone into ores) automate the world flower by flower.
Tip: Point spreaders with the Wand of the Forest and keep pools close; mana bursts lose power over distance without upgrades.
Terrasteel, Alfheim, and the Gaia Guardian
- Terrasteel: combine Manasteel, Mana Pearl, and Mana Diamond on the Terrestrial Agglomeration Plate with a full pool's worth of mana; unlocks elite gear and the Terra Shatterer pickaxe that levels up by absorbing mana.
- Elven Portal: trade with Alfheim through the portal for elven materials (Elementium, Dragonstone) and access to advanced flora.
- Gaia Guardian: summon the boss by ringing a beacon with Gaia Pylons; it drops Gaia Spirits for endgame items like the Flügel Tiara (flight). The hard mode variant tests genuinely optimized gear.
- Baubles/Curios: rings, belts, and tiaras carry mobility and utility effects, making Botania one of the best accessory sources in any pack it joins.
Corporea, the mod's own item-request network built from ender-linked spark auras, rounds out late-game logistics.
Botania FAQ
How do I generate mana efficiently in Botania?
Early: a row of Endoflames fed charcoal by a dropper on a timer. Mid: Gourmaryllis with a steady food farm or Entropinnyum with duped-free TNT delivery. The Lexica lists each flower's rate; scale flower count to your pool draw.
Is Botania on 1.21?
Official builds cover through 1.20.1 on Forge and Fabric at the time of writing; check the project page for newer ports.
How do I summon the Gaia Guardian?
Place a beacon, ring it with 4 Gaia Pylons, and right-click the beacon with a Terrasteel ingot. Bring melee: the fight punishes ranged camping with teleports.
