What is Better Combat?

Better Combat by ZsoltMolnarrr borrows Minecraft Dungeons' melee feel: wide directional swings, weapon-appropriate combo animations, dual wielding, and no attack-cooldown micromanagement. It keeps vanilla's balance intact, with identical damage numbers and attack-speed economy, while making every swing look and feel deliberate.

It ships for Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge and has become the default combat polish in modern RPG packs.

What Changes

  • Directional strikes: weapons sweep in animation arcs that match their type, so a greatsword cleaves wide where a spear thrusts long and daggers land in flurries.
  • Combos: successive attacks chain distinct animations with subtle timing windows; holding attack auto-chains at correct rhythm (configurable).
  • Dual wielding: two one-handers alternate naturally, including mixed pairs.
  • Reach honesty: weapon length maps to actual hit range, making polearms meaningfully different from daggers.
  • No added systems: there is no stamina bar, lock-on, or posture meter to learn. Vanilla's underlying math stays put, so servers can adopt it without rebalancing.
  • Mod weapon support: huge compatibility list; weapon mods like Simply Swords ship native Better Combat attributes.

Better Combat versus Epic Fight is the standard choice: Better Combat polishes vanilla feel; Epic Fight replaces the genre entirely.

Better Combat FAQ

Does Better Combat change damage or balance?

No, damage, attack speed, and enchantments stay vanilla. The mod only changes the animations, honest weapon reach, and input flow.

Does Better Combat work on servers?

Yes, install both sides. Vanilla-client compatibility is not supported since animations and hit arcs need the mod present.
