What is Alex's Mobs?

Alex's Mobs by AlexModGuy adds more than 85 creatures — real animals, cryptids, and inventions — each with bespoke AI, animations, and a mechanical reason to exist. A grizzly bear will maul you over a honey raid and the roadrunner genuinely sprints, while out in the Nether, bone serpents patrol the lava like sea monsters and the mimic octopus quietly impersonates whatever block you were about to mine.

It runs on Forge (with NeoForge-compatible builds) atop the Citadel library, and it set the modern quality bar for creature mods: every mob drops something useful or interacts with a system.

Creatures and Their Loot

A taste of the roster's range:

  • Grizzly Bear – tameable with honey; a fighting and carrying companion.
  • Elephant – rideable pack animal with chest storage.
  • Emu – famously dodges arrows; drops eggs for anti-projectile gear.
  • Mimic Octopus – copies blocks and mobs; its tentacle enables camouflage items.
  • Bone Serpent – Nether lava predator whose teeth make fire-proof gear components.
  • Crimson Mosquito, Warped Toad, and Stradpole – the Nether ecosystem alone justifies the mod.
  • Farseer, Void Worm, and Murmur – dimension-flavored horrors waiting at the endgame edge.

Mob-derived items matter: dozens of unique equipment pieces (shields, boots, charms) craft from creature drops, and the in-game Animal Dictionary documents behavior, taming, and drops for every species. Spawning respects biomes and is heavily config-tunable for packs.

Alex's Mobs FAQ

What versions does Alex's Mobs support?

Forge 1.16.5 through 1.20.1 (with the Citadel library required). Check the project page for newer ports.

Can you tame Alex's Mobs creatures?

Many species tame or interact — bears respond to honey and elephants to acacia, and several mobs work as mounts or companions. The Animal Dictionary item lists each species' rules.
